A brick industrial building in Hyattsville, Maryland, is not where you’d expect to find a science lab. But this one fits right into the culture it’s working to enhance: brewing.
Laboratories aren’t unique to Matt Humbard, who heads up Hyattsville-based Patent Brewing Company. He’s a trained microbiologist whose full-time job has him working on the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic. Read more…
Carryout alcohol sales offer Maryland restaurants a lifeline that could become permanent

Somehow, in the middle of a pandemic, sales on Mother’s Day were up this year at Dan’s Restaurant and Tap House in Boonsboro.
Carryout cocktails, served in mason jars, played a big role.
“We could not believe it,” said Charlotte Aufdem-Brinke, the restaurant’s co-owner. “We ran out of mason jars to sell.”
In normal times, Dan’s Tap House wouldn’t be allowed to sell alcoholic drinks to go. But like other struggling eateries and taverns across Maryland, Dan’s benefitted from emergency rules that have allowed carryout and delivery service for beer, wine and cocktails while in-person seating is limited. McClintock named Maryland Distillery of the Year by international competition

FREDERICK, Md (WDVM) — This year’s Maryland Distillery of the Year hails from Frederick, and the local operation took home several more international awards.
McClintock Distilling was recognized as the state’s top producer by the New York International Spirits Competition. The distillery’s selection of craft whiskey, vodka, and gin also took home a total of 20 awards from the New York competition, the San Francisco Worlds Spirit Competition, and the SIP awards. Baltimore Spirits Company To Open Cocktail Bar Next To Distillery In Union Collective

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore Spirits Company has plans to open a new cocktail bar next to their distillery in Medfield’s Union Collective.
The 1,500 square foot bar will be between the Vent Coffee and the Wine Collective storefronts.
Once it is open, the bar will offer signature cocktails and established favorites using their own spirits, such as Shot Tower Gin and their Epoch Straight Rye Whiskey. Read more…
